Its fair to say that when I received an email from Craig, many months ago, to see if I was free to photograph his wedding I was pretty excited. You see Craig was going to be marrying Melissa at Highclere Castle and I was excited because not only is it a spectacular backdrop for photographs, but I actually got married there myself.
Melissa is American and the couple currently live in the USA. They where over in the UK to attend another friends wedding and Craig took Melissa to Highclere to do some sightseeing. During the guided tour it was mentioned that they hold weddings at the castle and that was it for Melissa her wedding venue was chosen!
Their wedding day itself was a fantastic event with a twist on both English and American traditions, with beautiful little details everywhere you looked. Right down to silver elephant place card holders that they brought over in their luggage, apparently airport security where quite puzzled by that one.
They got married on a glorious summers day in June, they had their wedding ceremony and drinks reception at Highclere and then headed to The Newbury Manor hotel for their wedding breakfast and evening reception.
Both venues present beautiful backdrops for photographs so we where able to get some really artistic portraits of them.
I was amazed how many of Craig and Melissa’s friends and family made it to the wedding, for some of Craig’s side not so much of a trip as he is originally from Andover. Melissa on the other hand is from America and they both now live in Vancouver, Washington, so a lot of their guests made the transatlantic trip to see their castle wedding which is wonderful to see. Although I’m sure the draw of seeing a beautiful English castle helped a little![]()
